Meet Saba · The Story Behind Miss Saba
Miss Saba Ethiopian Botanicals was born from more than a love of skincare. It was born from heritage, perseverance, motherhood, and a desire to create something meaningful to pass on to the next generation.
My story began far from where I am today. I was born in a refugee camp in Sudan to an Ethiopian family with roots in Tigray. My earliest story is one of transition and resilience. My family eventually came to the United States, first to Boston and later to California, where I grew up navigating different cultures while carrying the traditions, strength, and beauty of my Ethiopian heritage with me.
As I grew older, I became a mother to two daughters, and motherhood changed the way I thought about legacy. I wanted my daughters to understand that where we come from is something to celebrate and that the traditions passed down through generations can inspire what we create for the future.
That vision eventually became Miss Saba Ethiopian Botanicals.
I began exploring the oils, butters, grains, and botanicals that have long been connected to African and Ethiopian traditions. One ingredient especially captured my attention: teff. This ancient Ethiopian grain became an important part of the Miss Saba story and a beautiful connection between the heritage that shaped me and the products I wanted to create.
What started with experimenting, learning, formulating, and making products by hand grew into something much bigger: a skincare brand centered on intentional self-care and botanical ingredients.
Today, Miss Saba offers products designed to turn an everyday skincare routine into a moment of nourishment and care. From our rich Body Butter to our Body Oil and convenient Body Balm Stick, each product reflects the philosophy behind the brand: Nourish. Protect. Soothe.
But Miss Saba is about more than what is inside a jar or bottle.
It represents the journey from where I began to where I am today. It represents a mother building something her daughters can be proud of. And it represents the belief that heritage doesn’t have to remain only in our memories, we can carry it forward, reinterpret it, and create something beautiful from it.
Miss Saba Ethiopian Botanicals is my way of honoring where I come from while creating something for where we’re going.
